The best time to experience a bike trip to Leh is from May to October as the road gets clear and the snow begins to melt. The routes from Manali and Srinagar are accessible only in summer and autumn beginning in May.

Pangong Tso

Pangong Lake is one of the famous lakes in Leh Ladakh. Originates from the Tibetan word “Pangong Tso” meaning “high grassland lake”. It is roughly 4,350m above sea level, and the lake’s color changes from blue to green to red at different times. This is the world’s highest saltwater lake and a must-do place for those who visit Leh Ladakh.

Shanti Stupa

At a height of 11,841 feet above sea level, the Shanti Stupa in Leh is a majestic white-domed Buddhist monument situated atop a steep hilltop. This monument is said to be built by the Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu, Gyomyo Nakamura in the year 1991. The place is a popular meditation site, which offers the ultimate peace and serenity. The dusk and dawn time are considered the best time to visit this place.

Tso Moriri Lake

Tso Moriri Lake or the mountain Lake is one of the most prominent lakes in the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Ladakh region. Nestled at a height of 4595 meters above sea level, the lake is guarded by the high mountains. The lake remains frozen during the winter months and the snow melts after April. This is an offbeat destination and gets fewer tourists as compared to Pangong Tso.

Leh Palace

The royal palace of Leh is counted among the most famed tourist attractions in this region. The place is situated in the capital town Leh and it is believed to be founded by the founder of the Namgyal Dynasty, Tsewang Namgyal. The palace is now looked after by the Archeological Survey of India.

Hemis Monastery

Hemis Monastery sits on a mountain at an altitude of 12000 feet above sea level and is considered the largest one in the Ladakh region. The monastery was built in the 17th century by Chapman Gyalshas and is situated 49 km south of Leh. The monastery is a fine specimen of the Tibetan style of architecture and the main building of Hemis Monastery has white walls. The ideal time to visit this place is in June and July during the two-day Hemis festival.

Things to carry for Leh bike trip

  • Each biker must carry their original driving license, bike papers, valid insurance, etc.
  • It is advisable to carry an extra puncture kit, accelerator cables, clutch cables, tubes, fuses, and air pump.
  • One must carry sunscreen lotion, scarf, gloves, muffler, and water/windproof jacket.
  • It is necessary to carry a First Aid Kit including band-aids, antiseptic, and crocin in case of fever or pain in the body as the weather changes very frequently which can have a huge impact on the body.
  • As the journey is lengthy and hence it is advisable to carry some extra liters of petrol to have a smooth journey.
  • One must carry a sufficient quantity of water and other energy bars to stay dehydrated all the time.
  • It is also advisable to carry more cash instead of relying on ATMs.

Some safety measures

  • Consuming alcohol or antidepressants and also smoking and chewing tobacco are strictly prohibited.
  • People with high blood pressure, heart ailments and asthma should stay away from this activity.
  • Halts are very important for this long journey to avoid any kind of deterioration.
